Poscards from Copenhagen

Well it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to hop onto a plane and travel to a new place without the struggle of restrictions (thanks to you know who🦠). Luckily, the enrolment of vaccines has meant we slowly returning to a new normality and here we are again with another city break! 😍

A couple of weeks ago I was excitingly able to visit a new, beautiful country, Denmark. We flew to their capital city, Copenhagen. One of the calmest and most walkable cities I’ve ever visited. From its colourful waterside town houses, cute cafes, artistic markets and friendly locals…I really didn’t know what to expect but I can confirm, this city is an absolute dream.

We spent 3 days exploring the city and it was just about the perfect amount of time to get around this small, but busy capital.

We were kindly invited to stay at The Imperial Hotel @imperialhotel by @@arphansenhotelgroup. We wouldn’t be able to find enough words to compliment this amazing hotel. Located right by the centre of the city, opposite the famous theme park Tívoli Gardens and only a couple of minutes walk from the train station. We were welcomed with a bottle of bubbly, some locally made chocolates and a gorgeous view from the hotel balcony.

Breakfast’s quality was second to none, with so much to offer too. We fuelled for the day with some of our favourites before heading out to explore the city.

After speaking to locals and friends who have visited before, we discovered the best way to get the most of the city, is by food. An extremely foot-friendly city that had us from our hotel to Nyhavn within less than 30 minutes.

A picturesque waterside town that really brings the city to life. You can take a boat trip down the canals for a gorgeous view of the city, or sit by cafe and watch the world go by!

Another place you MUST visit is Tívoli Gardens. The mini Disneyland of Copenhagen & the ultimate provider of a good time. This popular amusement park is located in the heart of the city centre (near central station). This happened to be right oposite our hotel! Of course, we managed to squeeze this in just hours before our flight. Running around the park for a few hours and hopping on the biggest rides! (Highly recommended)

One of the most popular places to visit in Copenhagen is to visit the Freetown area of Christiania.

This is the hippy area of the city. A place where residents occupied some abandoned military barracks and decided to develop their own set of society rules, completely independent of the Danish government. In the walled area of the Freetown, you cannot take photos or videos and it’s important to respect this, it’s a cool area to go during the day as I did but I can imagine it really comes alive in the evening, especially the weekend.

Away from the walled-off area you are able to take photos! Here you can walk along the canal and take in all the beautiful coloured buildings with it not being as busy as Nvhavn.

All in all, we really enjoyed our trip to Copenhagen. It’s really made me want to explore more of Scandinavia! Would definitely recommend saving up a little bit more for a trip to the north, as it can be quite expensive but def worth it!
